Looks like CBS Sunday Morning will be doing a story on “the changing American family” tomorrow morning (Mother’s Day!) and they’ll be featuring a family or two from the project. See Lupe, Monroe & family above!

We Are the 15% was featured in “Photo Website Highlights Local Interracial Families” by WJCT, the NPR station in Jacksonville, Florida. Big thanks to Anneliese Delgado for reaching out and including the story of a local family (The Kims) who’ve been featured on the site. Have a listen!
Alyson and I had the pleasure of speaking with Barbara Hamm Lee on the “Another View” radio show last Friday. The theme (you guessed it!) was interracial couples, and it was a joy to share some conversation with guests Alvean Lyons, Angela & Robert Claypoole. Or rather, Alyson had good things to say; I was dealing with our dog Cronkite, who was barking at the Fed-Ex guy. Give a listen over here, it’s the 9/6 show.

We’ll be on “Another View” in a couple hours, at noon (EST) on Friday. Listen in! Use the “TuneIn” app on iOS and look for WHRV.
VIDEO: Melissa Harris-Perry – MSNBC – “Foot Soldiers of the Week”
We’ll figure out how to properly embed this video later (MSNBC’s flash embed code isn’t working so well with tumblr) but in the meantime, here’s the piece that Melissa Harris-Perry’s show did today about We Are the 15 Percent.
While the story may be focused on Michael & Alyson (Michael’s writing this post in the third-person) it’s really about every single of one of you who’s sent us a photo in the last few weeks. You’ve emailed so many great photos that we’re looking forward to publishing in coming weeks, months & years…
While the Cheerios commercial might come & go, our goal is for this site to persist with continual updates until the 15% becomes the 16%, and the 17%….
Thanks for the support, the connection, and for participating in this project. If you’d like to see some of the other interviews and articles that have been published, we’re archiving them over here for now.
Good News!
Barring any unforseen scheduling issues, We Are the 15 Percent will appear on Melissa Harris Perry’s show on Saturday morning, June 29th, toward the end of the 10am-Noon show, in a segment called “Foot Soldier of the Week”.
We were on “The Morning Show: Toronto” this morning via Skype, talking about the site. Glad to see some of your photos featured on TV!
PHOTOS: Awesome Project Responds To Cheerios Backlash
It was only two weeks ago that the Internet was ablaze with backlash over a Cheerios commercial featuring a biracial family, followed by an outpouring of support for the ad. While such topics tend to burn brightly online and disappear just as quickly, photographer Michael David Murphy hopes to make a more lasting impression with his response, a website called “We Are The 15 Percent”.
BREAKING: Interracial Families Actually Exist
The response to the racist backlash behind the Cheerios ad: “Hi, we exist.”
